Not sure about patching as there is no source code available for MSN Messenger. However, I would like to point you out to another blog at http://linuxweblog.com/node/150 which mentions alternative MSN Messenger support on Linux systems. I would higly recommend GAIM though.
Additionally, if you want to code up something, you may want to check out libmsn, a C++ library for Microsoft's MSN Messenger service. It provides a high-level interface that allows an application to access instant messaging features with ease.
Oh !!! I'm really tired.....and sooo bored: I think I'll just take a break and scribble up some 'code' for that poor guy after; all he 'IS' attempting to appear to have some intelligence and is more or less at least trying to use LINUX
